Like any Opponaunt, when I’m driving, I scan my environment for neat automobiles. Sometimes they are !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , while others are !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . But every once an a while, fate decides to make life easy for you, and gives you something you can’t possibly miss. In this case, fate dropped a Mercedes Unimog Exploration and Zombie Survival Utility Vehicle™ right in front of me. I may have used the word “badass” to describe other cars I’ve spotted in the past. Please disregard all those. They pale in comparison to the badassery that is the overlanding Unimog. This car is more badass even on a Whole Foods run than you will ever hope to be, so stop trying. Also, I’m in Nebraska. This thing has Ontario plates on the back, and German plates on the front. Either way, I think it’s safe to wager that this rig has been everywhere.

That’s a great looking rig, looks like an older 437 u5000. hopefully, otherwise that’s going to be one slow drive

Methinks this truck doesn’t go anywhere in a hurry, but it probably does the same speed no matter what’s in front of/underneath it.

Can go 80 MPH if it has the fast axle, which I doubt this Unimog has. 55 is probably the top speed.

Looks like there is a port for a winch in the bumper. It’s hard to say because it is in shadow, but that looks like a set of rollers hiding behind the cutout in the middle of the bumper. Either the winch hook is stored internally when driving or possibly the cable is off. Or maybe I’m seeing things and it doesn’t have a front winch, but that does seem unlikely on a Unimog.

Neat truck.

The German plate on the front is an export plate, probably the very plate used to register and drive the truck to the port for import to Canada. FN = Friedrichshafen & Bodenseekreis, Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany (see https://www.customeuropeanplates.com/german-license… ).

It looks like it has a handle sticking out of the front bumper, could that be to engage the winch clutch (indicating its buried in the front bumper and or PTO)?

The JPS has a German plate on the front of it still. But that’s just because the taller Ontario plate beats the hell out of the paint on the air dam.
